Job Description - Cybersecurity Technical Writer
The Cybersecurity Technical Writer is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation that supports the cybersecurity team’s goals. This includes developing technical documentation, user manuals, guidelines, reports, and educational materials that accurately convey complex cybersecurity concepts, procedures, and best practices to a range of audiences, including technical teams, end-users, and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cybersecurity specialists and engineers to gather information and transform complex technical processes into understandable, accessible documentation.
- Develop and maintain technical documents such as security policies, incident response plans, user guides, and cybersecurity training materials.
- Ensure that all documentation adheres to company standards and is compliant with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that documentation aligns with cybersecurity and organizational objectives.
- Edit and proofread materials for clarity, accuracy, and consistency, maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Assist in developing content for internal training sessions and educational resources to promote cybersecurity awareness within the organization.
- Maintain version control of documents and keep all materials up-to-date in line with evolving cybersecurity threats, tools, and protocols.
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders and executive management, effectively communicating cybersecurity issues and updates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, technical communication, computer science, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in technical writer, preferably within the cybersecurity or IT industry.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, practices, and terminology.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence).
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand language for varied audiences.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, GDPR) is a plus.
